What is  the PATHS Programme?

As you know, your children have been following the Pathsplus programme as a way of developing their friendship skills, increasing their self-esteem and identifying and managing their emotions.

The PATHS Programme is progressive, and is specifically catered for each year group and key stage.  Year 1 and Year 2 are introduced to ‘Twiggle’ and his friends, who teach the children about being a good friend, labelling their feelings, and good friendship skills like caring and sharing.

We say goodbye to Twiggle and friends in KS1 and KS2, however the same principles are being taught.

Some KS2 children are developing the Pathsplus message by being 'Paths Pals'.  They applied for the job, took part in training, and were awarded a certificate to state that they are competent and confident in re-enforcing the Pathsplus message to our younger pupils at lunchtime.

We are very fortunate that we have Pathsplus co-ordinators from Barnardos who come in to monitor our progress, and share good practice.  The children have responded so positively to this programme, and we are delighted with their social and emotional maturity!
